So, is the P320 Dangerous? Spoiler alert, Steve Doesn't think so. Just like Michael Jackson, Steve thinks it's all a conspiracy and it's totally harmless in real life.
There's a lot to unpack here, so bear with me.
First, let's address social media.
Social media is a cesspool of disgusting people posting disgusting content. I (Steve) permanently deleted my instagram after some fitness pages I was following started promoting "influencers" that only wanted to use "fitness" as an excuse to shill their onlyfans content. "Target stubborn belly fat with this one easy trick. Also, sub to my OF." If that one easy trick isn't a target heart rate zone for 25 consecutive minutes, then your "one easy trick" makes you a fucking liar. People continuously post false information just to farm clicks. I have no idea how profitable this scheme is, but is it worth your decency? Is it worth your self-respect? There was a mother in Australia that was jailed for POISONING HER TODDLER AND LIVE STREAMING DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS just to farm likes and clicks on tiktok. These people are so treacherous that Dante Alighieri wrote them into the ninth circle of hell in Inferno.
Now, let's address the military.
I've literally seen officers use a Beretta M9 to beat peanut butter packets from MRE's by hitting the packets while they're on the ground like a hammer. I've heard of soldiers using an M9 as a hammer to pound in tent stakes. As someone who has set up the ICS tents on several occasions, I believe it. If we served together and you remember "Forrest Gump" from our unit, it proves just how stupid Soldiers are. He gave a girl, that he met right before a deployment, unrestricted access to his bank account while we were deployed and she cleaned him out of the deployment money right before we came home. Soldiers are some of the dumbest people you've ever met.
Does the P320 go off without a trigger press? Steve doesn't think so.
Sig states that a stock P320 will not fire without the trigger pressed.
I have a P320 AXG Classic. I have replaced nearly every single component in the FCU to make it as light and crisp as possible, the barrel, the striker itself, and the takedown lever. I have even gOnSmifFeD a safety into mine and filed out the aluminum frame and grip panels because the AXG doesn't come with a safety. I still have not had any issues with mine after probably over 10,000 rounds between classes, USPSA, and USPSA Steel Challenge. I have not replaced the slide, though.
I have only ran two holsters throughout this entire time I have used my P320. One is a Safariland 7378RDS duty holster with the QLS forks and the other was made by my friend Dennis, who does a fantastic job with all sorts of custom kydex.
"But Steve, shut the fuck up because this has nothing to do with the impromptu discharges!"
(impromptu discharge, a copyrighted term by Titan Tactical, 2025)
I believe it does.
Do i think that a P320 had an impromptu discharge? oh, absolutely!
Do I think soldiers are so fucking stupid that they will jeopardize the lives of everyone around them trying to replicate it? for sure. tent stakes, peanut butter, or trying to set up a lawsuit to win back all your lost deployment money, soldiers are fucking stupid.
what about holsters?
I believe that most holsters retain the firearm by tension applied inside of the trigger guard by kydex that has been molded or vacuumed inside of the trigger guard void space. The P320 doesn't have a blade-style safety in the trigger shoe like almost every other striker fired handgun without a safety. neither does the P365, which is not military issued, nor common for LE duty, nor common for full size use for training classes.
I also have a P365 with almost zero original parts, no safety, and it's staring at the head of my dick nearly 24/7.
I think that the lack of a trigger safety, combined with the concave shape of kydex holsters inside the trigger guard contribute to a portion of these discharges. If the trigger is held slightly rearward due to the shape of the holster, then it is a matter of time before an aggravating factor moves the trigger and releases the striker. I don't believe this is the case with my holsters because the safariland is not concave inside the trigger guard and the other was a 1-off custom holster that was friction fit to my exact handgun.
what about social media?
have you seen the video of the impromptu discharge* and the instructor immediately says "IS THAT A FUCKING 320?!"
I have had exactly ONE unintended discharge in a class, and it was during a holster draw clinic. the unintended discharge put a hole in the student's shirt, and it was a Glock 19.
the first thing we did was secure and clear the firearm.
the second thing we did was check the physical and mental status of the student.
I would be fucking ASHAMED of myself if the first thing I said was "is that a P320?"
SAFETY is the priority, ALWAYS. if student competency happens second, so be it.
if people will sell pictures of their pussy for $6 or poison their child, I would absolutely believe that people will try to stage a scenario to jump on the P320 bandwagon. to be clear, i am not saying that is what happened, but I would believe it if it was.
Do i think Sig is without fault? nope.
were there issues with gen 1 P320's? probably.
should they have implemented another form of safety? yes.
it's no secret that i'm a closeted boomer. my favorite handguns are 1911's and their spinoffs (2011's, DWX's, Browning Baby models, etc). A 1911 has a minimum of two external safeties - the thumb and the grip. I have never pinned a 1911 grip safety and I never will. the only Series 80 1911 that I own (the firing pin block plunger safety model) is a Delta Elite. I trust my life to them regularly. If I dont conceal a P365, I conceal a 1911, or a form of it, usually a Staccato C2. I prefer the Series 70 1911's (lighter trigger but no firing pin block) because i enjoy very light triggers with a short reset, because the extra added safety adds a very slight increase in trigger pull weight.
when asking for more safety on a P320:
Added safety comes at a price, whether it's added cost or added trigger pull weight.
too little safety comes at a much higher price.
